Silvio Braga began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the age of 8, in Teresopolis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He had the chance to train with the Gracie family and Azevedo family in Teresopolis, which had the first Gracie campus training in the 1970’s.
Silvio grew up watching Jiu-Jitsu greats Rickson, Royler, and Renzo Gracie, fighters that are now household names. As a child he climbed the ranks of each belt, progressing to the Brazilian national Black Belt champion in 2006.
Along the way, Silvio won the Rio state championship in Blue, Purple and Brown Belts. Under the instruction of Adilson ‘Bita’ Lima, a sixth degree Black Belt under Carlos Gracie, Jr., Silvio was awarded the rank of Black Belt in 1999, and has since been promoted to second degree black belt.
In 1996, at the rank of Purple belt, he started teaching at the Academy Barra Gracie Pitbull under Master Instructor Bita Lima. This opportunity allowed Silvio the chance to teach hundreds of students in Brazil as well as traveling throughout the world teaching, including prestigious schools in the United States and Thailand. During his travels, Silvio taught countless law enforcement officers, military, and Governement officials from the FBI as well as the Secret Service, and not to mention at the Soul Soliz Academy, the home of UFC former champion Tito Ortiz.

Silvio's style of teaching Jiu-Jitsu is a combination of the traditional Brazilian method and more modern techniques of submission grappling for complete self-defense training.
